Governor Generals of India (1834-1854) The Charter Act of 1833 was passed renewing the Company's charter for a further 20 years which altered the title from Governor General of Fort William in Bengal to Governor of the Presidency of Fort William in Bengal and Governor General of India, Lord William Bentinck (1825-1835) being Governor General at the time. |
